All Guardians Start Fresh In Destiny

By way of their official blog, Bungie revealed today that players who participated in the Destiny’s Beta will not be able keep the equipment they obtained or the abilities they acquired within the test.

Since the Beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game. The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.

If you did enjoy the characters you created for the Beta however, perhaps not all is lost.  There has not been any word as to if those characters are being deleted or simply reset to level one. Those who played the test build on the Saturday where the moon was unlocked for a few hours will also receive a special emblem.

My Opinion:

I don’t entirely dislike the thought of starting fresh, even if my characters are deleted I know enough to be able to remake them.  But admittedly when I read the news today I felt like part of my soul died.  For those who may not know, I have a lot of down time these days due to an injury.  I put a lot of that time into the beta and my characters.  Not only did I reach max level with each, but also max abilities, which were roughly 10 additional ability unlocks after the level cap, AND I achieved a grimoire score of 690.  I knew this could happen however, and while parts of the Beta became a grind, it’s a grind I’ll be able to experience all over the solar system this time around!
