The Cardboard Box Returns to MGSV: The Phantom Pain

Everything is getting an upgrade in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain; even, as Hideo Kojima announced today at Sony’s Gamescom press conference, the famous cardboard box.

On the Gamescom stage, Big Boss was seen using the famous box, which can now be used for a few tricks. First, Boss can pop out of the box for a quick kill before returning hidden. If he is spotted, Boss can also exit the box from the side provided that a building is nearby.

If one is not close to a building or in the open, the box can have covers on them. One cover — a saluting soldier — will make enemies from far away believe an ally is present, making them leave. A model in a bikini is also available for men to ogle at, letting Boss escape or kill the enemy.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released in the first quarter of 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

My Opinion:

Wha… What? Sorry, I was distracted. It is hard to tell if this is a joke or not, but using the box in this way isn’t the worst idea.  The pop-out-and-fire system is great for taking out enemies one by one. The covers idea, though… I expect to hear some not-so-kind words from the feminist community about this, but I think it just goes to show that men, even hardened military soldiers on a mission to find and kill another soldier can be distracted by boobies. Ahh… men.
