Super Smash Bros. Gamescom Announcement Hub

While Nintendo does not have a press conference at Gamescom, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS got an avalanche of announcements.

First and foremost, following the vague Sakurai Miiverse post, Meta Knight has been revealed as the 37th playable character in both games. Meta Knight, a fan-favorite antagonist of the Kirby series, made his first Smash appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

After this rather large announcement, Nintendo of Europe revealed they will be selling a limited edition, Super Smash Bros. themed 3DS XL. The new SKU is a red 3DS XL with a Smash decal — check out the photo below.

Additionally, the limited edition model will have Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS packed in. While no price point has been revealed, the Tweet mentions it will be coming October 3rd.

While many fans thought this was the end of the Smash “info-marathon”, Nintendo came out with even more details. On the official Smash Bros. site, the Big N gave us some details on some of the single player modes.

Classic:

Classic Battle 3DS SmashClassic Mode will have players follow a path along a map and fight CPU opponents. While sometimes these battles on one-on-one, there are also special and team battles along the way.

Winning a fight will nab you some gold, trophies, and “custom parts” — what these custom parts do have yet to be mentioned.

Fighter Balance:

Fighter Balance Mode gives you the opportunity to win big on gold. Players have the option of taking on lower level enemies for less gold or higher level enemies for a goldmine.

Stadium:

The Stadium Mode includes two veteran sub-modes (Multi-Man Smash and Homerun Contest) and a new mode, Target Blast.

Target Mode Smash Bros. 3DS

Target Mode acts like a mix of Angry Birds, Bomberman, and the Homerun Contest. After hitting a bomb, it will explode ten seconds later — the goal is to destroy as many targets as possible using the correct trajectory and power.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will be coming to 3DS on October 3rd, while it’s Wii U counterpart will be heading to Nintendo’s home console Holiday 2014.

My Opinion:

Just when I think the announcement parade has stopped for Smash, they keep drawing me back in. I’m dying for that limited edition SKU. Not only that, but Meta Knight is a crowd favorite among all my guy friends at home — there will be a lot of celebrating tonight.
