Legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto is bringing his talents to the world of cinema. For this endeavor he has enlisted one of his newest creations, Pikmin. Miyamoto has completed an animated short movie appropriately titled “Pikmin Short Movie.” The film is comprised of 3 episodes, “Midnight Juice,” The Treasure Inside,” and “One Tough Day.” This animated short film was created using CG and will be able to be viewed in 3D. Shigeru Miyamoto is using the movie to explore ideas he wasn’t able to in the Pikmin games.
Spectators can witness those ideas in person when “Pikmin Short Movie” premieres at the Tokyo International Film Festival. The festival runs from October 25th to October 31st at different locations in the city.
Shigeru Miyamoto is an icon in the video game industry. He is responsible for creating some of the most successful and beloved franchises, from Mario and Donkey Kong to The Legend of Zelda and Star Fox. I’ve been a fan of the Pikmin series since it debuted back on the GameCube in 2001. It’s exciting to see Miyamoto bring his creativity to a different medium and I hope the film receives a release outside of Japan.
