Nintendo Job Listing Hints at Next-Gen

A recent job listing at Nintendo may be hinting that its next piece of hardware is in development.

The listing calls for a Senior Software Engineer at Nintendo Technology Development, a subsidiary of Nintendo of America located in Redmond, Washington. It details a number of duties pertaining to the position, mostly dealing with video and image processing. The job listing specifically states they are looking for a “…passionate and self-driven embedded software engineer to work on key pieces of video and camera driver stack for Nintendo gaming systems.”

Aside from the New Nintendo 3DS, there is currently no official word from Nintendo on their next console or handheld. The New Nintendo 3DS is an upgraded version of the Nintendo 3DS with a faster processor, new shoulder and c-stick buttons, and an NFC scanner. MONG recently acquired the New Nintendo 3DS, and associate writer Aaron Dobbe gave us his first impressions.

My Opinion:

While Nintendo has recently stated that they will continue to support the Wii U for the foreseeable future, this job opening indicates that the “Big N” has begun work on the next iteration of their machine. Just how long until we have concrete information about it remains to be seen.
