Halloween is here, and the staff at MONG want to celebrate by revealing four of our favorite games to play on a night like this!
Nathan Reid, Associate Writer: Costume Quest
I’m getting a little old for trick-or-treating so Costume Quest is a great way to relive those annual evenings dressed up as a vampire (my go-to costume), an alien (my favorite all-time costume), or a pumpkin (my first ever costume). Costume Quest possesses all the humor of a Double Fine Production and perfectly integrates RPG elements and quick time events into a genre I am a total sucker for- turn-based strategy. With a short six hour play-time, this is a game you could beat all in one long Halloween evening
Jesse Webster Senior Writer. Alan Wake
Atmosphere can go a long way, and Alan Wake is the perfect example of this. You play as a writer that tries to find his missing wife and solve the mystery of the lake. While it does have action elements in the game, it’s got an atmosphere so thick that most games nowadays can’t touch. It’s a great game with an amazing story, and I still consider it as one of the greatest games on the Xbox 360.
Tyler Bartlemus Associate Writer: Five Nights at Freddies
This game had been getting a lot of attention on the internet recently, and for a good reason. This indie survival-horror game, while simple in concept, has terrified me (and a good portion of the internet) in ways I could have never conceived before hand. You play as the new security guard at Freddie Faz Bear’s (as somehow cleaner version of Chuck E.Cheese) working nights, your job is to monitor cameras and make sure nothing goes wrong after-hours. Unfortunately for you, the animatronic animals like to walk around the place at night killing employees. While this game is easily beatable in only a few hours, it is chock full of jump scares and definitely worth a try this Halloween.
Adam Leonard Associate Writer: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
While lacking some of the startle factor of some of the other entries on the list, I still feel Danganronpa is an excellent choice to get you through the Halloween season. Trapped in a school, murder being the only way to escape, Danganronpa tasks you with solving a string of increasingly odd series of murders. The stakes are high, either you find the culprits, or your life (and the life of your classmates) are forfeit. The game features an addicting thriller of a story, and features a memorable cast, that you quickly grow very fond of. Attachment to these characters is punishing as your heart will sink every time a new murder occurs, and it will out right break at times when you discover what your fellow classmates are capable of. Dangranronpa is one of the finest PS Vita games to date, and definitely a worthy way to spend your Halloween.
