The Geekend Update: 10/31/14

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Weekends are meant strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think. Here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

I’ll be finishing up Fantasy Life for review while also trying to split my time between Sunset Overdrive and Freedom Wars.  November hasn’t even started yet and I already feel overwhelmed with the amount of games I want to play and won’t have time for.

Harry Loizides, Senior Editor:

Ok, so I really hope I finish (or at the very least) play Metroid Fusion. At this point it’s getting a little embarrassing…

Myles Farrington, Senior Editor:

I just started up a new character in Destiny, so take a mad guess at what I’ll be doing. Without the loot cave I can’t just set myself up next to some looters and gain EXP until I’m 20 this time, so I have to actually try. Such a shame, right?

Dustin LaRoe, Associate Editor:

Another weekend, another date with Destiny(Ha!) Seriously though, I’m going to start a character on the PlayStation version of Destiny this weekend. My free white PS4 Destiny Bundle from Taco Bell just arrived in the mail this morning. I have some work to do to get ready for the upcoming expansion in December.

In non-Destiny news, I will be testing out Evolve once again. I have invites to both PC and Xbox One versions, so I’m eager to see how the two look comparatively.

Jesse Webster, Senior Writer:

Nothing. I haven’t really been playing anything these past few days. I would like to try Share Play from the new PlayStation 2.0 update, but I haven’t had a chance to use it yet.

Aaron Dobbe, Associate Writer:

Gonna continue to make my way through Adventure Mode in Hyrule Warriors as well as looking for collectibles I missed in Bayonetta 2. I’ll probably spend a little time continuing to work toward the platinum trophy for Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus. (I’m thinking this is what all my updates will look like until Super Smash Bros. for Wii U drops…)

Adam Leonard, Associate Writer:

I plan on spending some more time with the Evolve Big Alpha, loving what I’ve played so far. Past that I definitely need to play some more Sunset Overdrive, and I’ll try to squeeze in some more Freedom Wars. The Evil Within will continue to look longingly at me from my shelf, a victim of wonton neglect.

Benjamin Luthi, Associate Writer:

This weekend will be my yearly holiday transition. Halloween will be filled with Minecraft Zombie Hunts and Luigi’s Mansion. Then on November 1st it’s the first day of the Christmas Season, so we break out the candy canes and hot cocoa, and play Christmas NiGHTS and all the snow levels on Mario Kart.

Brian Hoerst, Associate Writer:

I’m flying home for a few days this weekend, so it’ll be all Vita action for me. I bought seasons one and two of Telltale’s The Walking Dead from the Walking Dead Sale on PSN, plus Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (also on sale on PSN). I doubt I’ll have much time to play once home, but I’m all set for the flights.

Darius Purse, Associate Writer:

I’ve been playing Tomb Raider on my PS3 and really enjoying.  Didn’t realize the graphics were so stunning, some of the lighting in the game is gorgeous to look at.  Taking enemies out using the bow and arrow is a ton of fun.

Elijah Oguma, Associate Writer:

This weekend will most likely be similar to last weekend where I’ll be bouncing between Final Fantasy X on Vita,  and  Minecraft and Destiny on Playstation 4. This will be my life until Smash on Wii U drops.

Jake Dekker, Associate Writer:

Sunset Overdrive will be my weekend!  When this game was revealed I wasn’t too sure if it would be my cup of tea.  I was wrong.  It is awesome!  I can’t wait to dig deeper into over the weekend.  Happy Halloween!

Jason Patrick, Associate Writer:

I’ve been in LA all week so I’ve been limited to gaming on my Vita. The free time I find, in between exploring the city, has been spent playing The Swapper. It’s a great little puzzler, with incredible atmosphere. I’m hoping to finish it off this weekend so I can dive into The Evil Within come Monday.

Jordan Loeffler, Associate Writer:

Ever since I picked up Destiny, I’ve been hooked on getting my Titan to level 30. I’m at level 28, and the goal is in sight, but I’m also ready to take a short break from my Bounty Board binges. This weekend, I start my adventures with Freedom Wars for the PlayStation Vita. I haven’t touched the game yet (it just came in the mail), but I’m looking forward to sitting down with it for a good few hours.

Kaleob Archambeau, Associate Writer:

Most likely Legend of Korra and Final Fantasy XIII.

Lucy Pallent, Associate Writer:

Like last week I will be trying to finish Final Fantasy IV, I’m 25 hours in. Moreover, tomorrow I’m coming back from my holiday so I’ll finally be able to get back on my Wii U and try to finish Pikmin 3.

Matthew Keates, Associate Writer:

I will be wallowing in solitude, can’t wait! Also I will likely be playing way too much DOTA 2.

Matt Middleton, Associate Writer:

Continuing to plug away at Lords of the Fallen for my review. This is a very fun and difficult RPG. Also still working on Transistor. DAT SOUNDTRACK DOE!

Patrick Garrity, Associate Writer:

This weekend you’ll see me streaming random games/adventures here and there on www.twitch.tv/patgar36.  Plan on diving into Freedom Wars a bit more and of course working towards the end of True Vault Hunter Mode in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.  I see The Walking Dead Season Two is 8 bucks on Xbox Live so I might grab that.

Riley Berry, Associate Writer:

My weekend will be filled with organized crime; I just finished Yakuza 3 and just started Yakuza 5. Some more Twin Peaks may be in there too.

Steven Shearer, Associate Writer:

Good question! I will be playing Football Manager 15 (FM15) tonight. I’m not 100% if I want to play it tomorrow as well, as it is the early access and I want to play as much as I can. If I decided not to play FM15, then it will be a toss up between Sunset Overdrive or Forza Horizon 2!

Tyler Bartlemus, Associate Writer:

I plan on finishing up my current playthrough as I study for my midterms next week. If I get the chance, I think I may return to Destiny for a bit and see if I can finally max out my Warlock class.

What games are you playing this weekend?
