The Geekend Update: 11/9/14

Weekends are meant strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think. Here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

I plan to get a LOT of time in on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare this weekend.  I’ve only played the first few mission so far and I can’t believe how much I actually care about the characters so far.  Maybe its just because of Troy Baker and Kevin Spacey, but it doesn’t feel like a Call of Duty campaign so far.  At least, not the storytelling part.  Aside from that, I may get some more time in with Freedom Wars.  I can’t wait to have enough time to dive further into that one.

Harry Loizides, Senior Editor:

Sadly I won’t have time for gaming this weekend due to some prior commitments. I’ll try to play a few rounds of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS!

Myles Farrington, Senior Editor:

Nothing! I guess! I have no plans whatsoever! I might play Destiny, I might not! I might get a job and move, who knows? Exclamation points!

Shawn Richards, Senior Editor

I plan on playing some Sunset Overdrive and maybe switching over to some Watch_Dogs if I have the chance to play them. Also, I may get some of the dust off of my Vita with Minecraft. Oh, sweet, sweet Minecraft…

Dustin LaRoe, Associate Editor:

Another weekend, another couple of hours with Destiny. I’m nearly to level 29, and I’m looking forward to doing a full raid run sometime soon.

Jesse Webster, Senior Writer:

Thankfully I’m no longer stuck in Shin Megami Tensei IV, so I’ll be playing more of that. I doubt it, but I hope that I can beat that game before Persona Q comes out. I think I’m half way, but with RPG games, especially the Shin Megami Tensei games, you’ll never know.

Aaron Dobbe, Associate Writer:

The usual suspects of Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2 will be getting the most love this weekend. (Maybe I’ll finally be able to start on the Hyrule Warriors DLC!) I also picked up The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth this week, so I’ll be partaking in some brutal, adorable, generally screwed-up dungeon crawling as well.

Alex DeLaPena, Associate Writer:

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth . . . I. Can’t. Stop . . .

Adam Leonard, Associate Writer:

I’m definitely going to focus on finishing up Sunset Overdrive so I can be ready for the torrent of holiday games starting next week (Damn you Target and your Buy 2 get 1 sale!). When I need a break from that I’ll probably play either Freedom Wars or The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, as I’ve really been enjoying both of them.

Elijah Oguma, Associate Writer:

I’m still chipping away at Final Fantasy X on Vita. I’m about 25 hours in. The voice acting is horrible compared to todays standards, but the game still retains it’s charm after all these years. Other than that, I’ll probably jump into Destiny at some point to check out what Xur has in stock. I’m hoping he has the Gjallarhorn, it’s the best rocket launcher in the game!

Jason Patrick, Associate Writer:

Last weekend I made a good amount of progress in The Swapper. An awesome indie puzzler that I’m playing on the PlayStation Vita. But I’ve literally been stuck on a particular puzzle for hours so I’ve walked away from it. Sidenote: The Swapper will be free for PlayStation Plus members, come January.

I plan on finally fully diving into The Evil Within. I’m currently on chapter 3, after a few brief play sessions with it. It hasn’t hooked me but I bought it digitally so I’m going to force feed play it, as to not waste my money.

Jordan Loeffler, Associate Writer:

This weekend will hopefully see more of Freedom Wars since I didn’t get too far into it last weekend. I might even play around with Dragon Age Keep a little more, in preparation for Dragon Age: Inquisition. Besides that, who knows? Maybe one of those PS Plus freebies will weasel its way into my weekend.

Landon Luthi, Associate Writer:

Life sucks when waiting for a new Smash Bros. game, so I will be playing DayZ: Arma II Mod all week to help keep my mind off of it.  I will also be starting my adventure in Mighty Gunvolt today.  No homework, no worries!

Oh, I also played Steam’s demo of The Evil Within earlier this week, and I am hooked!  This game can only be played in the dark, just like any Silent Hill game.

Lucy Pallent, Associate Writer:

My 3DS seems to be breaking which isn’t at all good. I hoping it will last until the New 3DS XL comes out. I’ll probably play some more Final Fantasy IV and my OCD got in the way of Pikmin 3 last weekend, so I’ll have to try that. Also I heard a little game called Shovel Knight came out in the UK…

Patrick Garrity, Associate Writer:

I am planning on finishing Ocarina of Time finally.  It’s a sad tale, I have the day one N64 game and Majora’s Mask too, but never finished either of them.  Also finishing up Call of Duty: Advance Warfare for review. Sunday football.

Ryan Amirault, Associate Writer:

This weekend is the first in many that won’t include a Destiny raid in my plans as our clan cleared it easily in one night. I plan to play some Shadow of Mordor that I am borrowing from a friend, and will continue plugging away at the Driveclub tour mode. There also will be some Steamword Dig play on my Vita; it’s one fun little game that I probably would have never played if it weren’t for PS+.

What games are you playing this weekend?
