According to a report from Game Informer, the two games will be releasing on Sony hardware in the first quarter of 2015. The first is Atelier Ayesha Plus: The Alchemist of Dusk. While we already knew of the game’s existence, we now have an exact release date: Atelier Ayesha Plus will hit the Vita on January 13th, 2015. The Plus version is an updated port of the 2013 PS3 edition of the game. The game will include nearly all of the PS3 version’s DLC, as well as new content exclusive to the Plus version, including a hard mode, new costumes, and new enemies to fight. The game will be released exclusively on PSN for $39.99.
The second announced game is Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea, an all-new game headed to PS3 on March 10, 2015. Claiming that the game will offer “unlimited playtime,” Koei Tecmo emphasized the importance of community feedback when developing the game, as well as a large volume of sidequests and a fast-paced battle system. Players will be able to choose between two characters who have their own stories, and explore large world that “evolves” as you progress through the game. Atelier Shallie will be available at retail for $49.99.
I have yet to play a game in the Atelier series, but the franchise has been on my radar for some time now. The games do look very enjoyable to me; the only reason I haven’t jumped in yet is because I know they’ll end up being yet another huge time-sink I have to deal with. That said, I’m tempted to pick up Atelier Ayesha Plus on Vita, because it marks the beginning of a sub-trilogy that, incidentally, ends with the upcoming Atelier Shallie. Regardless, it looks like the series is going well, and I look forward to seeing how these releases are received by long-time Atelier fans.
