Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer have been sold out since day one in a host of retailers. After no new shipments arrived for these characters, rumors began to spread that Nintendo was only going to sell through initial stock of these characters and then discontinue them. But don’t worry. Those rumors appear to be unfounded.
David Young, Assistant PR Manager for Nintendo of America, responded to a fan’s concerns about the discontinuation of these figures with the following (as seen on Twitter):
The rumors started on Saturday when a canadian retailer tweeted that these figures had been discontinued. Once consumers caught word of this, eBay prices skyrocketed. Prices for Marth on Amazon Marketplace went past $50, with Villager not far behind.
Fortunately, it appears we will still be able to find these characters for a fair price in the near future. That being said, some pre-orders for waves two and three have already sold out, so if you want to be among the first to own these figures, you should act fast.
The second wave of Amiibo, which features Captain Falcon, Luigi, and four others, will launch on December 14th, with the third wave coming in February. Each figure (generally) costs $12.99.
I would have been extraordinarily surprised if Nintendo actually did discontinue these figures so soon. It’s clear there is demand for them, so all they need to do is restock and reap the benefits. Let’s hope the same thing happens soon for the GameCube Adapter.
