Gamers have been begging Sony for more 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 consoles, and this week they’ll get a chance to own one. Sony revealed that they will be making 100 of the limited edition consoles available each day this week, at least for people who have a UK address.
Here’s how this all will roll out. The PlayStation website currently features a picture that contains 300 of the most popular PlayStation characters. Sony has advised gamers to “Study the image well and make sure you know your PlayStation characters.”
You’ll then want to be following @PlayStationUK or @GAMEDigital on Twitter. Each day these Twitter accounts will tweet out a cryptic clue containing the #20YearsOfCharacters hashtag. The clue will lead you to click on one of the characters on the PlayStation website. If you select the correct character you will be taken to a hidden page and asked to complete a form.
The first 100 people that submit the form will receive an email within 24 hours containing instructions on how to purchase the 20th Anniversary PS4. Once this 100 limit has been reached each day, the remaining names will be placed into a daily drawing for one additional console.
The odds are low, so you’re going to want to be fast. You can expect the tweets to go out around the times noted below each day (UK time):
- Monday: 4pm
- Tuesday: 5pm
- Wednesday: 2pm
- Thursday: 8am
- Friday: 12pm
Another thing to note, you need to either live in the UK or have access to a UK address for shipping, because GAME won’t ship outside of the UK. You also need to be 18 years of age or older, and it’s one console per person. Good luck to all of you who are looking to get their hands on the elusive 20th Anniversary PS4!
My Opinion:
I think this is a fun way for Sony to sell these limited edition consoles. Their goal was to try to get the units in actual gamers hands, and not to have them sold for profit on eBay. I sure hope it works, I hate seeing things go to the wrong audience. Good on Sony!
