SPOILER ALERT: It’s not NAMCO BANDAI Games!

After being BANDAI NAMCO Games Inc. for less than a year, the company has announced that they will be changing their name to “BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc.”, according to their latest press release.

In the press release, it shows off the new logo (seen above) and it states that 20 subsidiaries, including BANDAI NAMCO Games Inc., will be changing their names.BANDAI NAMCO stated that the reason for the name change was because:

“With the advance of technology and diversification of user preferences, the Group has expanded into new products and service domains that extend beyond its previous game business domain.”

“[So by widening] the definition of their business field to entertainment without limiting them to the present field of games, thus aiming for further growth through new development of service and content businesses that utilize networks.”

The name change will take effect on April 1, 2015.

My Opinion:

I originally thought that this was an early April fools joke; but then I remembered that April 1st is the first day of the new Japanese fiscal (business) year. So this makes a lot of sense; but, does make me wonder whether NAMCO BANDAI are seriously thinking about leaving the video game business?
