Telltale and Mojang Team Up For Minecraft: Story Mode

Telltale has added yet another episodic game onto its busy schedule and it’s one of the most successful games of all-time, Minecraft.

Ever since the critical praise of Telltale’s The Walking Dead they have been prolifically  adding properties: The Wolf Among Us, Borderlands, Game of Thrones, and now Minecraft. Like their previous games, it will be episodic, story driven, and focus on player choice.

Mojang claims that Minecraft: Story Mode will not focus around Minecraft’s silent protagonist Steve, but will mix new and old characters in an entirely original experience influenced by the Minecraft community. Mojang asserted that there is massive interest for fiction set in the Minecraft universe. The Telltale game is just one interpretation of the world.

Episode One is slated for release in 2015 on Xbox Consoles, PlayStation Consoles, PC, Mac, iOS and Android.

My Opinion:

This will truly test the story-telling abilities of Telltale. Their previous efforts have all been focused on world’s with very strong lore to pull from but Minecraft is a blank canvas. I’m a little skeptical for that reason and because the whole fun of Minecraft is the sandbox aspect and how there are no restrictions because of story, you make up your own story. I’m scared Telltale might be getting too ambitious but so far they have delivered on every game. I could see this being their funniest game especially if it is influenced by something like The Lego Movie. Lastly, it’s nice to see it on PlayStation because I was scared it might not be with Microsoft’s recent purchase of Mojang.
