Deep Down is a title that was announced back in 2013 and, save for a single trailer since the original announcement, has gone dark since. This lack of news and the delay of the beta in Japan may have led to some worries about Deep Down seeing a release stateside. Luckily, there’s been good news.
Dualshockers brought us the news that Deep Down is still alive and kicking over the weekend. The pleasant surprise was “revealed” when news that the trademark for Deep Down has received a second successful extension request came to light.
To explain things, in the U.S.trademark system there has to be some kind of proof that a trademark is actually being used. If six months passes with no new word of intention of use, then an extension request must be filed to keep the trademark. Otherwise, the trademark is canceled.
That means that the likelihood of Deep Down showing up is improving. Capcom likely wouldn’t file the request if they had no intention of bringing the anticipated free-to-play title to the U.S. markets. Hopefully there will be more news following this soon.
My Opinion:
Awesome! I’ve been a fan of Deep Down (well, as much as is possible considering the lack of info) since the original announcement. The concept of a beautiful free-to-play Dark Souls, essentially, just gets me wanting to hear more about this title. I want to see more gameplay, more loot and definitely more good news.
Myles K Farrington is one of the MONG Senior Editors and is legitimately wondering where he’s going from here. Keep up with him over on IGN and Twitter as well!
