Planetside 2 Sets World Record

A new world record has been set in the Guinness books, folks. The last “champ” that held the title for “Most players online in a single FPS battle” has been knocked off their throne and Planetside 2 has taken a seat at the top.

On January 24th, a joint operation between Sony Online Entertainment and the community site Planetside Battles came to fruition when 1,158 players flooded the Jaeger server to go to war. The massive conflict brought all three of the game’s empires together in the record-setting event.

The original holder of the title, a game by the name of Man Vs. Machine, held the record with 999 participants until now. If you’re excited to play Planetside 2, you can on the PC, or on the PlayStation 4 if you got into the closed beta which began on January 20th.

My Opinion:

I love reading news like this. Massive battles featuring hundreds or thousands of player characters, events like these are one of the reasons I love video games. The EVE Online spaceship skirmish that went down early last year brought a massive smile to my face. Well done, SOE and Planetside Battles, this is (literally) one for the books! I would love to see some statistics, like how many bullets were shot, how many kills there were, just how long this conflict lasted. Until then, I’ll just be happy with another massive in-game tussle getting due recognition. I’m actually excited to try out Planetside 2 myself.

Myles K Farrington is one of the MONG Senior Editors and is legitimately wondering where he’s going from here. Keep up with him over on IGN and Twitter as well!
