Why the New 3DS Didn’t Make it to North America

Early this month the New Nintendo 3DS XL hit North American shores, however, the regular New Nintendo 3DS didn’t quite make it in order to keep things simple for its users.

In other territories Nintendo released two models of the New 3DS.  An XL version and a one that is of similar size to the original Nintendo 3DS.  Under the hood, both the handheld devices are identical, but the New 3DS XL boasts larger screens.

Damon Baker, the Senior Manager in Marketing and Licenses at Nintendo said, “We had to think about expanding the user base, we had to be able to market it and make it easy to pick up for consumers,”

The new handheld has sold over 335,000 units since its release last week.  Be sure to check out our hands on impressions of the standard New Nintendo 3DS.

My Opinion:

It didn’t really bother me when Nintendo announced that the regular New 3DS wouldn’t make it to North America.  I would have picked up the XL anyways, and I think it was smarter on Nintendo’s part to only release one.
