New Destiny Update (1.1.1) Now Available

The latest update for Bungie’s Destiny (1.1.1) that features some interesting changes is now live.

The update includes weapon balancing, perk fixes (which addressed the heavy ammo issues) and various other things. To see a full list of the changes made, check out the post detailing it over at Bungie.net.

Some changes of note are the weapon balancing, decreasing the base damage of Auto Rifles by 2.5%, while increasing the base damage of Pulse Rifles by 9.7%. They made this change after gathering stats of how many kills were made, by weapon (in PVP, aka The Crucible).

Another change, which is getting a mixed reaction, is the forced matchmaking for the Weekly Strike. Now, whenever you boot into the weekly strike, you are automatically matched up with two other random players. Parts of the community have said they would like the matchmaking to be optional, but now it isn’t.

The last addition of note is a convenient menu that allows players to see their reputation level with the various factions (Vanguard, Crucible, New Monarchy, etc.) without having to go to The Tower.

My Opinion:

I played some Destiny last night and didn’t notice substantial changes to The Crucible. I am primarily an Auto Rifle user when it comes to PVP, so it was nice that the change have yet to substantially affect my Kill/Death ratio.

I’m a proponent of the new forced matchmaking for the Weekly Strikes. It can be a bit of a hassle to gather two other friends who haven’t already completed it, once a week. And the strikes don’t require a massive amount of coordination, so they can easily be completed with randoms. I actually did one last night and I’m now nine Strange Coins richer. But it’s definitely an oversight for Bungie to force this onto players. Be flexible, Bungie, and let people play the game however they want to play it.
