If you’re a shoot-em-up fan with a Nintendo 3DS, keep an eye on the eShop this Thursday: Teyon will be localizing Iron Combat: War in the Air from Japanese developer Amzy.
The announcement on Teyon’s blog details the premise of the game. Iron Combat is set in a world at war with a corporation bent on world domination. As Earth’s last hope, players will chase down enemy ships as a fighter jet, then transform into a humanoid mecha to destroy them. The action looks fast and frenetic, and definitely seems to be made for fans of the genre. Check out the localization trailer below:
Iron Combat: War in the Air will release on the Nintendo 3DS eShop this Thursday, March 19th. A European release has been confirmed, but the release date has yet to be announced – the announcement only states that it will “follow [the US release] soon.”
My Opinion:
I had heard of this game a year ago when it was released in Japan as Phosphorescent Lanze. It piqued my interest then, but I didn’t think it’d be getting a Western release. I’m glad I was wrong, because this seems really interesting to me: it’s reminiscent of Liberation Maiden, with perhaps a stronger focus on Star Fox 64-esque 3D dogfighting. The visuals seem a little rough around the edges, but 3DS games usually look better on the console than they do in screenshots, so I’ll reserve judgement until I get a chance to play it. Looking forward to trying this one out!
