Androids are some of the most popular characters used in science fiction. They are most often either a threat to humanity, sleeping machines waiting to take over the world, or a great aid to civilization showing us new insight into what it means to be human. In the follow-up to NieR, NieR: Automata, they just might be our savior.
Courtesy of the PlayStation Blog, we are getting more details about the story of NieR: Automata. The human population of Earth has succumbed to an alien invasion, where the weapons of war used against humanity are mechanical life forms. Mankind has retreated to the moon and has devised a way to fight back against its attackers. A resistance force of android warriors is taking the war back to Earth, chief among them the female android protagonist of the game known as 2B.
For the 2016 PS4 exclusive, many of the original team behind NieR have returned to work on the sequel. PlatinumGames is handling development of the title and much of the action gameplay they are known for is present in the first gameplay trailer. Watch below and see android 2B slice and dice her way through mechanical enemies to restore Earth back to mankind.
My Opinion:
The action from the trailer looks good with 2B certainly possessing quick speed, slashing and dashing her way through enemies. The closing moments of the trailer with the giant mechanical creature slamming her down, has me intrigued by the boss battles present in the game. I never played the original, but the blog post states that newcomers shouldn’t have any trouble jumping into the series.
