2016 may not be here yet, but it’s not too early to get excited about the many big games releasing next year. While most hardcore gamers are aware of anticipated releases like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Street Fighter V, and Quantum Break, one title looking to make a splash is Katana ZERO.
Releasing late 2016 on PC from developer Askiisoft, Katana ZERO is billed as a neo-noir platformer with instant-death acrobatic combat. As a deadly assassin, players can utilize a time manipulation drug called Chronos to slow down time and deliver the ultimate kill. Movement is key with the ability to run, roll, sneak, wall jump, and grapple hook-all aiding in your goal to progress through each level with murderous style. Watch the teaser trailer below and see the bloody results of what happens when a sword is faster than a bullet.
I’m really digging the aesthetic of the game as it definitely reminds me of Hotline Miami with the 80’s neon vibe. The ability to slow down time and deflect bullets back at enemies brings to mind Viewtiful Joe. If Katana ZERO is able to match the relentless combat fun of either of those titles, it will be one of my favorite games next year.
