Any gamer looking for additional savings on new releases, might want to consider Amazon Prime as their first choice for purchases. If free shipping and release date delivery wasn’t enough to entice, Amazon has announced Prime members will now save 20% off new physical video game pre-orders, with the savings extending through two weeks after. So if you don’t want to get burned by a pre-order, you can still wait to see the critical reception to a game’s release before making a commitment.
The discount will be applied automatically at checkout, as long as each item is sold and shipped by Amazon and not a 3rd party. If you have already pre-ordered a title, the new offer will be extended to existing Prime members. At this time, the offer is only available in the U.S.
I’m currently not an Amazon Prime member, but have bought a number of games from them in the past. I’ve considered joining Prime before and this certainly goes in the plus column for swaying me to sign up. With the average new game release costing $60 the discount would bring the price down to $48, a nice bit of savings.
