As we begin to plunge full force into virtual reality, many of the gameplay experiences offered by the technology have come from the first person perspective. Lucky’s Tale for the Oculus Rift takes a different approach from the norm.
Bundled with the Oculus Rift when it releases March 28th, Lucky’s Tale is a colorful platformer designed exclusively with the Oculus Rift in mind. What makes it unique among many VR games, is the fact it is played from the third person perspective. The VR dimension adds to the game by creating a sense of depth, allowing you to zoom in and out of the world and see the character of Lucky and the environment in new, unique and detailed ways.
Developer Playful has released a new gameplay trailer for Lucky’s Tale which can be seen below.
I like the fact that Lucky’s Tale is offering something different from the typical VR game. A lot of VR titles seem to offer an experience or come across more like tech demos. Lucky’s Tale seems to be a full fledged game and although a platformer wouldn’t be the first thing that comes to mind with VR, initial impressions I’ve read have been really positive.
