Titanfall’s Lead Engineer Speaks on Xbox 360 Version

In an interview with Eurogamer, Respawn lead engineer Richard Baker spoke at length about the technical side of creating Titanfall, and then he mentioned the Xbox 360 version of the game, which is still being worked on.

“Yeah, we’ve actually been playing it almost every day here.” Baker said. “It seems pretty close [in terms of] feature parity [to the Xbox One version] and [Bluepoint Games is] still working on getting the frame-rate up. I’m not sure about the resolution…”

This is concerning given that Titanfall isn’t running at an ideal rate on the Xbox One, and while Respawn hopes to increase the Xbox One’s resolution to a “[targeted] 1080p non-anti-aliased or 900p with FXAA” through a future patch, the Xbox 360 version is now an older generation of console and less powerful than its younger brother.

Bluepoint Games is an independent studio with a history of porting games to other consoles, including the God of War Collection to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal to the PlayStation Vita. They are currently working on the Xbox360 version of Titanfall.

Titanfall launches March 25, 2014 on the Xbox 360. As of now, only the Xbox One and PC versions of the game have been shown.

My Opinion

It’s common to see games on the cusp of a console generations get scaled upwards to add some friendly faces to otherwise lonely launch lineups; however, it’s not often a current generation game will be brought backwards to an older generation. Adding to is always easier than taking away, and I wonder what state the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall will launch in.
