Far Cry 4: Elephants, Mountains, and 2015

According to Eurogamer sources, Far Cry 4 will be released in early 2015 and take place in the Himalayan Mountains. Players can expect to ride elephants.

The snowy mountain range in Asia—home to Mount Everest—marks a departure from the Far Cry franchise, which normally takes place in tropical jungles and islands. This change in scenery opens up the door for new ideas, though Eurogamer’s sources report that Far Cry 4 will be similar to Far Cry 3 in terms of gameplay. Expect to liberate outposts and hunt local fauna.

Eurogamer’s sources also report that Far Cry 4 will make an appearance at Ubisoft’s 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) showing, and will be out on current gen consoles. It is unclear if the game will appear on the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360.

My Opinion

Taking an established franchise and adding a bit of a twist is always a good thing. The jungles are fun, but perhaps too normal; the mountains are a far cry from the Far Cry’s comfort zone. As the big-budget side of video games grows more similar and cynical, it has become very refreshing to see changes, and I can think of quite a few changes that would come from such a drastic alteration in scenery. I look forward to learning more about this game at E3.
