Final Fantasy XIV: “Duty Commenced” Episode 2 Recap

The FFXIV community team has decided to begin a live talk-show titled “Duty Commenced” via their Twitch Stream. The purpose of the talk-show is to give a community manager perspective on various aspects of the game, the community, and future events.

In the second episode of “Duty Commenced” the community managers started out by explaining when / where the FFXIV fan festivals will be held (Tokyo, Las Vegas, and London between October and November). After, they began to talk about new aspects of the game, as well as their current favorite threads on the official forums.

New Information

  • Haulbreaker Isle will be based around a “specific weather” that the main boss of the dungeon is the cause of.
  • Summoners’ pets will be adjusted to allow for more balance. The Developers would like to stay away from buffing or nerfing the pets, instead giving them “creative alternatives”.
  • Tomes of Mythology will be adjusted. (An increase to their drop rate was implied)
  • “Chocobo Something” is also stated as being developed for the Golden Saucer. (Potentially Chocobo Racing?)
  • Chocobo Companions’ level cap will be increased by “feeding them a certain item”.
  • Chocobo stables are stated to be introduced, as well as chocobo re-coloring.
  • New low-man content designed for less than four people, will be introduced in patch 2.3.
  • “Big plans” for in-store for Goblins in the future.
  • The “show weapon” and “show helmet” commands will now be gear-set specific.

My Opinion:

I love when community managers get involved with the game’s player-base on a more intimate level. It really lets us see the men behind the curtain, and it distinguishes FFXIV from other MMOs who tend to keep a stark distance between the developers and the player-base.
