Xbox One June Update Announced

The Xbox One update for June has been announced. The update will include several new features: support for external storage, the ability to use real names, smartglass improvements and the ability to automatically sign in.

The announcement was made by Xbox’s Larry Hryb, better known as Major Nelson, on both his personal blog and on the official Xbox Blog.

Support for up to two external storage devices will be available after the June update. Any hard drive(s) with a USB 3.0 connection and over 256GB of storage will be able to work on the Xbox One.

The ability to add names will also be available. Users will have the option to share their real name to either: all of their friends on Xbox One, a selection of your choice of friends, or refuse to share their real name.

Smart Glass will also have an update. Users will be able to access the entire OneGuide experience and have an universal remote on their smart device. Smart Glass users will also be able to reorganise their pins. There will also have a recent tab, where users can see what their friends are doing on their Xbox One.

OneGuide will also be fully available in more territories. Users who live in Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy will have access to OneGuide, as well as Favorites and App Channels. Additional features include Kinect voice commands for controlling your set-top box and other AV equipment. There will also updated TV and OneGuide settings to provide better power management, control of your devices and improved compatibility with more devices.

Xbox One will also be getting a new hub, detailing all the great benefits that Xbox Live Gold members have, like the Games with Gold offer and Deals with Gold. Users will also be able to access the apps that are no longer behind Xbox Live Gold, which was announced last week, on this hub.

Another feature from this update, is the ability to choose an account to automatically sign in on.

Users who are in the Preview Beta can expect to get this update shorty.

My Opinion:

This this exciting news! I cannot wait for this update. There are several things from this update that I have been wanting for a while now, like: the ability to auto sign in and having friends names appear instead of Gamertag. The amount of times I have forgotten who someone was because of their Gamertag is quite embarrassing. It’s also good to see the external hard drive support finally be added in. It’s also great to see Microsoft updating their console at a quick pace. Their last update was just this past week
