The newest Sonic game, Sonic Boom, has recieved a release date in addition to more information as to what it will be running on.
According to a press release, Sonic Boom is to be released this November in North America and Europe for both the Wii U and the 3DS versions of the game.
The Wii U version, called Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, will play like an action adventure game where players will focus on the strengths of the individual playable characters (Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles). Rise of Lyric will also be the first game on the Wii U console to run the Crytek engine.
The 3DS version of Sonic Boom will be called Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal and will focus on a new playable character called Sticks. In Shattered Crystal, Sticks will rescue Amy from Lyric in a more platforming and puzzle centric game. Cetrain unlockables from Shattered Crystal will also unlock items in Rise of Lyric.
This sounds like a great idea for a Wii U and 3DS game where separate titles talk to each other. The news that this game will run on the Crytek engine is also wonderful news for the console. However, there is one major issue to this game: Sonic. Sonic has been in such terrible crap lately like Sonic Freeriders and and Sonic: Lost World that I really miss his old days where he could just run really fast. Now, I don’t even recognize him. I just want a new Sonic game that was actually good. I mean, if this was a Mario game, where Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles were replaced with Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser, then I would be on board with this all the way. Free idea, Nintendo.
