As I played Destiny I also got more and more curious about other places I could go to get my Destiny fix. As I made my way through the world, killing enemies and helping out dead Ghosts, every now and then I would get a black and gold pop-up at the bottom of the screen that told me I had unlocked new Grimoire Cards. To keep things simple, the cards are just little bits of lore pertaining to the Destiny universe which were accessible on the website. They told some fairly interesting things about the Guardians, the races, and the worlds we’re going to be jumping into soon, but my curiosity about the cards also led me to my next point.
Once I had investigated my Grimoire Cards, I stumbled upon my armory on the website. Beyond stats for every one of my characters, I found that a part of the website listed all the gear my selected character had on them. Said listing included everything equipped and in their inventory. It let me select everything, read the flavor text, and then to my surprise, there was an option to equip things. Of course this would have very little impact on the game while you’re playing it, but I thought it was awesome that I could equip something through my phone, or laptop, and then said equipment would be in the proper place next time I picked up a controller. I don’t know if I’m behind the times, but I do just love the growing additions of second screen experiences in games.
If the website for the Alpha is indicative of what the final site and the app will be like, it’s going to be a fairly interesting extension of the gameplay. They’ll look immensely aesthetically pleasing too. I can’t wait to see what other features Bungie can cram into the app and website.
