Now, with all of these roses I’ve given to Destiny, I did have some issues with it. Some of them I’m sure were issues just pertaining to the alpha. Regardless of anything I say here, nothing is remotely bad enough to make me not throw all of my money at Bungie for Destiny. Most of these are minor little issues that I felt I needed to point out considering just how many good things I’ve said (and will say) about the game.
The radar, if you’ve seen images or watched the let’s plays, you can see it up there in the top left corner. Bungie took the usually specific “enemies are dots” radar and made it a bit more general than most players are used to. Now you just get varying shades of red and blinking in the section of the radar that tells you the direction the enemy is coming from. It’s a bit rough to get used to at first, and it might turn some people off… though once you’ve been playing with it for a few hours it becomes rather smooth.
Beyond the radar, Bungie departs from the normal reward structure in missions in a negative way. You don’t get paid very well in this game. Finishing missions gives you absolutely no money, and I thought that was slightly ridiculous. In my opinion you have to be paid well for killing enemies and not through missions or vice versa. You can’t just give little to no money for both. It makes collecting Glimmer (Destiny’s currency) a challenge and a bit of a grind. The same stands for loot. I felt I saw enemies drop goodies at a far too seldom frequency.
The last bits are so minor that I’m honestly surprised they’re issues. First off, you can’t move your head while creating your character. This led to my OCD kicking in and I ended up deleting two maxed level characters and having to make two more for each of their classes before being able to be happy with one. All because I couldn’t view everything from all angles. The last little issue is the load times. I’m pretty sure that’ll be handled with the game’s release, but ten to thirty seconds of sitting was a little much. I suppose it’s a good thing that the load screen is your ship (or ships in a fireteam) flying to your destination. They even toss in a cool “warp travel” screen if you’re flying to a different planet or moon.
