Mario Kart 8 Speeds Past 2 Million Sales

Nintendo has confirmed that Mario Kart 8 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide to consumers in just under a month.  This comes after the awesome 1.2 million copies sold in the first weekend.

The news was announced at Nintendo’s annual general shareholders meeting, where Genyo Takeda (Nintendo’s senior managing director) announced the sales milestone for Satoru Iwata (Nintendo’s President).  Iwata could not make it to the meeting, as he is recovering from a recent surgery.

The announcement was originally seen on Twitter when @NStyles was live tweeting the event.

My Opinion:

This is great news for Nintendo!  They have undergone a rough couple years with the Wii U and right now all signs seem to be pointing up.  I hope that Mario Kart 8 is just the beginning for what could be a great few years of first party titles.  It will be interesting to see how Super Smash Bros. sells later this year and The Legend of Zelda does next year.  My bet is they will “smash” all of the records set by Mario Kart.
