You can now use a PlayStation 4 controller for your PlayStation 3 system wirelessly, according to IGN.
This will almost eliminate the need of the PlayStation 3 controller. You do need to know that there are a few games that won’t work on the PlayStation 4 controller.
Also, the home button, vibration, and the sixaxis won’t work no matter what game you choose to play.
The Walking Dead and DuckTales: Remastered didn’t work with my PlayStation 4 controller. The Walking Dead doesn’t recognize the PlayStation 4 controller, and not even plugging it in will solve the problem. In DuckTales, you can move the cursor on the main menu, but that is about it. Because the home button doesn’t work, you can’t back out to the home menu of the PlayStation 3. Either pushing the power or eject button is the only way to get out of a game.
I tested all my PlayStation 3 games to see what can work wirelessly on the PlayStation 4 controller and they include:
- Dead Space 3
- Mutant Mudds Deluxe
- Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
- Hotline Miami
- Mortal Kombat
- Tomb Raider
- BioShock Infinite
- Resident Evil 4 HD
- Borderlands 2
- Journey
I tested out my PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 games as well. Unlike the PlayStation 3 games where you can use the controller wirelessly, the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 games won’t be able to play wirelessly. You must have the PlayStation 4 controller plugged into the system for the games to play.
- Persona 3: FES
- Persona 4
- Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
- Resident Evil: Director’s Cut
- Silent Hill
- Resident Evil 2
Because the home button doesn’t work, won’t be able to switch disks in multiple disk games like Resident Evil 2 or Metal Gear Solid.
There are steps that need to be taken in order to have the PlayStation 4 controller work on the PlayStation 3 system. You can find the steps to get a wireless PlayStation 4 controller to work here. It’s very easy to transfer from one system to another. Just plug the controller into your console of choice and it will work.
My Opinion:
I’ve been playing my PlayStation 3 a lot lately and after using the DualShock 4 controller, the DualShock 3 feels wrong to me. Thankfully, I can play most of my games using the DualShock 4 now. I hope that Sony will have an update that will allow the Home button to work so I can back out of a game instead of switching the console off completely while the game is running. I cannot stress this enough, TEST ALL of your games before you decide to get rid of your PlayStation 3 controller.
