The Geekend Update: 7/4/14

Weekends are meant strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think. Here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

I will be playing Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for most of the weekend as I try and finish it up.  When I get bored I will probably continue my grind in Don’t Starve and mix it up with a little Mario Kart 8 here and there.

Lou Contaldi, Senior Editor:

This weekend, I will be in rehab. Specifically, the rehab reserved for Resogun victims. If you’d like to come visit me, please do so in the form of co-op multiplayer, specifically at my PSN ID: KingLouieTrip. Oh, and while you’re at it, check out my interview with Housemarque (creators of the addictive series) while I beg them for details about their next games.

Chad Waller, Editor:

Going to dip into the usual Halo 4 on the weekends, and I’m still enjoying my time with Earth Defense Force. I think I’ve put like sixty or so hours into that game now. But, I picked up that new South Park game on the Steam sale, and I’d like to start it.

Shawn Richards, Editor:

When I will not be sleeping or watching old Marvel movies, I will be sucked back into the wonderfully devilish world of Terraria. Follow me @LittleBigHamm to keep up with my insanity.

Ryan Latuso, Editor:

I’m out of town visiting family this weekend so my options are very limited. I’ll be playing a lot of Bravely Default on my 3DS.

Dustin LaRoe, Editor:

The inlaws are in town so I’ll be playing a lot of competitive matches of Mario Kart 8. I also downloaded the 15 Steam Summer Sale games I bought and will be getting some play time in on them. Highlights so far: Nidhogg and Luftrausers. So much fun there.

Benjamin Luthi, Editor:

I have lots of stuff going on this weekend, mostly involving ‘Murica and fireworks. I’ll probably sneak in a little Mario Kart 8 and Pushmo World as time allows. Probably throw a little Mario Golf in there for good measure.

Myles Farrington, Editor:

I have a job now, wooo! I’ll be working, seeing friends, and possibly on a date or two. Not very much to do with video games, unfortunately.

Aaron Dobbe, Editor:

Happy Independence Day! I’ll be trophy hunting in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma and replaying Persona 3 FES this weekend. Chances are I’ll be hopping online with Mario Kart 8 at some point too.

Audrey Lips, Editor:

This weekend is a family weekend for the holidays. I don’t spend a whole lot of time with my family, so I won’t be playing too much of any video games… Except for Super Smash Bros. Melee with my sister who just loves kicking my ass (the one out of fifty times she does)!

Mike Morrissette, Editor:

MORE WILDSTAR!!!! But really though, I’ll be playing WildStar and getting ready for the big patch for Final Fantasy XIV coming out next Tuesday, I am so fangirling right now. Maybe I’ll bake something while I’m at it, because why the hell not?

Landon Luthi, Editor:

I finally was able to rebuild the town of Norende in Bravely Default, so now it’s time for me to finish that game tomorrow.  I will likely be buying Shovel Knight so that I may relive my glory days.  My brain tells me to take a small hiatus from GTA5, but my heart is giving my brain the finger.  Oh, and bravo for the 4th of July update from Rockstar.  If you have not celebrated GTA5 yet with this new update (will expire mid July), then do so now.

Harry Loizides, Editor:

I will be finishing up Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (hopefully) for GBA and of course playing any and all types of Smash!

Patrick Garrity, Editor:

This weekend I am going to attempt the impossible & get the Sun Sigil in Final Fantasy X.  I don’t know why but I want to PLAT this game badly & this seems to be the one item on the list that is “luck” based.  Otherwise I think I’ll torture myself with some Dark Souls 2, maybe some more AC4: Black Flag & I have some Divinity: Original Sin.  To the MONG crew & America have a great 4th of July!!!

Andrew Lee, Editor:

Time to finish off Watch Dogs, been too busy playing chess and driving around like a maniac. After that working on Ys: Memories of Celecta for PS Vita. Have fun and keep playing everyone.

Shaun Fales, Editor:

Finishing up Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition and writing my review. Once that is finished I’ve been craving Twilight Princess for quite awhile and finally fixed the scratches on my disc. I can’t wait to return to my favorite Hyrule.

Jesse Webster, Editor:

I haven’t been playing anything concrete lately. I played some of Dead Space 3, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Mutant Mudds Deluxe, and Digital Devil Saga. I’m installing Dota 2 again to see if I can get back on playing with bots again (you learn very quickly that playing with other players is a mistake when you first start on Dota 2). The main thing is that I’m trying to get a 3DS XL. If I get that I may pick up The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Shin Megami Tensei IV. I might start Far Cry 2 on something I may work on.

Jake Dekker, Editor:

My plan for the weekend is to marathon Guacamelee! STCE.  If you have an Xbox One and have not gotten around to playing Guacamelee! I highly recommend downloading it (It is free this month after all!) When I am done with that maybe I’ll finish Watch_Dogs, but probably not.

What games are you playing this weekend?
