Even though Pac-Man will debut in the newest installment of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, his inclusion was first considered for Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii.
According to Kotaku, early in SuperSmash Bros. Brawl’s development Shigeru Miyamoto expressed interest in including the ghost-gobbler in the roster. Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series, vetoed this idea.
“At the time, imagining the image of Pac-Man and his incomplete pizza shape, I thought to myself, ‘Hmmm… That’s a little too farfetched,” Sakurai shared in his semi-weekly column on Famitsu.
Unlike previous games in the franchise, Bandai Namco, the company that owns Pac-Man, is assisting in the development Super Smash Bros.for the Wii U and 3DS.
Super Smash Bros.for Nintendo 3DS is out October 3rd, and Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is expected this holiday season.
Considering that Namco Bandai is assisting Nintendo in the development of the latest Super Smash Bros. games, it seems obvious this partnership had something to do with Pac-Man’s inclusion. Whether or not this is true, I think Pac-Man will make a great addition to the roster!
