Do you ever find yourself thinking, “Y’know, I love BlazBlue, and I love card games… I wanna play a BlazBlue card game!” I honestly never did (as a fan of BlazBlue and card games), but it sounds like developer Alliance Digital Media is bringing us something we never knew we wanted!
With the help of Aksys (publisher behind Guilty Gears and BlazBlue), Alliance Digital Media is planning to develop the first BlazBlue game made outside of Japan (North America in this case).
Alliance Digital Media is taking 12 (six with the release and six more which can be purchased) of the fighters from the successful series and tossing them into the card game arena. You pick a character and go toe-to-toe with another player using your fighter’s signature moves and special attacks.
BlazBlue: Battle Cards will feature art based on the BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma versions of the characters. Battle Cards will see a fall release.
Sounds great to me! I’ve always been an absolute sucker for the aesthetic qualities of characters that come out of Aksys releases. On top of that, I also suck at fighting games (relatively of course) so I never get to fully appreciate the characters and their combos. I know it won’t be the same as playing BlazBlue in it’s original form, but I could definitely have fun with it. The only issue I see is that it doesn’t sound like it’s coming to Android, which is clearly the better of the phone OSes. Regardless, this title reminds me a bit of an old physical card game which I never got the chance to really appreciate that was called Ultimate Fighting System (UFS). I loved the idea of UFS so if this is done right, I’ll love it too.
