In an investor call yesterday at Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot (CEO of Ubisoft) said that a new Assassin’s Creed game will be announcing soon for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, according to Polygon.
Shortly before E3 this year, there was leaks pertaining to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. One leak showed off a video of what Assassin’s Creed would look like on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. That video later turned out to be gameplay footage for Assassin’s Creed Unity. The other leak was by codename only, and that was called Assassin’s Creed Comet. Now it seems that Comet will be the game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems. Considering that Unity was the name that was leaked for next gen, it would be safe to assume that Comet will the name of the previous gen game.
If there is a new Assassin’s Creed game coming out for previous gen and it will actually be announced “soon”, then Gamescom in Germany during August will be the place to unveil it.
Assassin’s Creed Unity is releasing on October 28 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While it is still unknown, I would guess that Assassin’s Creed Comet will be released roughly around the same time.
My Opinion:
Assassin’s Creed III had me burnt out on the franchise. However, after seeing Unity in action at E3, I’m interested in playing it. It would make sense to make a new Assassin’s Creed game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 because of the install base. I won’t be surprised if this would be the last Assassin’s Creed game for those systems. Whether or not it connects to Unity somehow remains to be seen.
