The Geekend Update: 07/11/14

Weekends are meant strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think. Here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

I just finished up Portal 2 and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.  Not exactly sure what I want to play next!  I’ll probably start Final Fantasy X-2 HDsomething this weekend when I am not playing Mario Kart 8 or Don’t Starve! Add me on PSN @osborn2009

Lou Contaldi, Senior Editor:

This is my birthday weekend so I’m going to do something special for myself and add three more months to my PlayStation Plus membership. For listeners of the podcast, you know that I let my membership run in order to renew it in year intervals (versus the three month intervals). However, due to a shortage of money [thanks a lot, Destiny Ghost Edition] I’m going one more session of three months.

That said, I can’t wait to sick my teeth back into Resogunto try the DLC that I purchased five minutes before I lost my membership!

Chad Waller, Editor:

Team Fortress 2 while hammered to the moon, or that’s the plan.

Shawn Richards, Editor:

It seems all the fireworks last week has inspired the first person shooter in me as I will be playing Far Cry 2 and replaying BioShock Infinite. If I have time, that is. If I am not playing video games or working, I will probably be on Twitter @LittleBigHamm, so check me out if you may want to know what a true nerd is. You know, that may not sound so good as I may have thought….

Steven Shearer, Editor:

I’ll most likely not be playing games this weekend as I am trying to learn C++ which has been grabbing most of my time. Although, If I do game it will most likely be a football (soccer) game, either FIFA 14 or Football Manager 14.

Ryan Latuso, Editor:

I have a nice rotation going right now between Bravely Default, Wolfenstein, God of War 2, and Dragon Age: Origins. I don’t know which I will play and when. I see myself putting some good time into God of War 2. I wouldn’t mind finishing it before Destiny Beta starts Thursday.

Dustin LaRoe, Editor:

Just finished Arkham Originson PC (Thanks Steam Summer Sales!) so I gotta decide if I want to jump into Arkham Asylum or something a little more actiony like Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning or Dark Souls.

I’ll also play several rounds of Nidhogg with my son. That game is a blast. I’m looking for info about the Nidhogg competition at EVO this year, I’d like to watch it if I could, but I’m out of the loop on that stuff.

I also started building silly spaceships in Space Engineers. That’s a game with tremendous potential. I am a bit afraid that I’ll never see it realized.

Console wise, I have to decide if I’m going to keep working on Wolfenstein: The New Order or give it back to Gamefly. I sorta enjoy it, but I sorta don’t care about it. I’m a bit torn.

I’m also still plodding away on The Wind Waker remake. I’m still unlocking new NES games in NESRemix. And there’s always more cup races to tackle in Mario Kart 8. Oh yeah, I’ll forever be taking on those challenges in Mario Golf. One day I’ll be able to put that 3DS down. One day.

Benjamin Luthi, Editor:

This week has been off the hook, in the sense that my phone at work has been ringing off the hook, so I haven’t had as much time for games as I would like. But assuming there are no disasters this weekend, I’ll be finishing up a few games (Mario Kart 8, NES Remix 2), making progress on some games (Mario Golf, Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move) and then going back to play some older games (Wario Land 1, Minecraft). Or maybe I’ll go light some more fireworks. Could go either way.

Myles Farrington, Editor:

I’m going to get my car looked at! I’m also going to enjoy having a couple days off to make my feet hurt less! Wooo! Anyway, keep up with me on twitter @FuriousMILK

Aaron Dobbe, Editor:

This week has been a little crazy for me, so I’m probably going to spend a significant portion of the weekend napping. Beyond that, I’ll be pseudorandomly hopping between Persona 3 FES, Mario Kart 8, Magical Beat, and Tomodachi Life.

Mike Morrissette, Editor:

So, Final Fantasy XIV’s patch released this past week, so my entire weekend will be me delving back into the world of Eorzea. With Crystal Tower, Hunts, and Personal Housing, I’ll be busy for a good chunk of time. I might venture out and attempt to platinum Kingdom Hearts 1.5 but so many of those damn Gummi Ship missions are damn near impossible. I also really want Chinese food and pizza, both of which I hope to acquire sometime on Saturday.

Landon Luthi, Editor:

I will be enjoying a weekend filled with Mario Kart and Grand Theft Auto.  I have been putting off Final Fantasy:Crisis Core for many years now, and I think that it’s time to experience this little gem.

Harry Loizides, Editor:

Now that I finished Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (recommend it), I’m thinking I’ll go nostalgic and finish Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga for the Nintendo DS.It’s my first “Lego” game and it seems fun so far; maybe it’ll peak my interest in other “Lego” games 😉

Patrick Garrity, Editor:

I have a pretty solid weekend lined up.  When I do have time to game this weekend, I will most likely be spending my time with FF X-2 or Wildstar.  I still have Assassin’s Creed 4 to finish too. Choices, choices, choices!!!  Have a good weekend everyone!

Andrew Lee, Editor:

Just got myself One Piece: Unlimited World Red on the PS Vita. It’s my first One Piece game so hopefully I’ll have fun. I’ll also be working on Valiant Hearts: The Great War. Have fun everyone and keep playing.

Shaun Fales, Editor:

I’m starting to fall back into Borderlands 2 after thinking I was finally done with it. I guess that 200+ hours isn’t enough for me. Hopefully I get just as much time out of the Pre-Sequel this Fall.

Jesse Webster, Editor:

Thanks to Persona 4: The Golden Animation, I started playing Persona 4 again. I figure I would beat that before the Destiny Beta comes out next week. I did play a couple of hours of Dark Souls II last weekend, and while I am not into the whole diminishing health after death thing, If I had my own copy, I would be playing that instead. For now its Persona 4.

Jake Dekker, Editor:

This weekend I will be playing Dark Souls 2.  A lot of Dark Souls 2.  I recently picked it up, and after a steady pattern of constant death I am starting to get the hang of it.  It is on the verge of sinking its teeth into me.  So wish me luck, because I will most definitely need it!

What games are you playing this weekend?
