Raiden Announced At EVO for Mortal Kombat X

Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios announced an old fan favorite for their upcoming title Mortal Kombat X. The fighter they showed off was Raiden, the God of Thunder.

Raiden has been a staple of the Mortal Kombat series since his first appearance in the original Mortal Kombat in 1992. Since then he has been a series mainstay.

Just like the rest of the fighters of Mortal Kombat X, there will be 3 variations of move sets to choose from. Raiden (with his lighting ability) can now set up traps and use his teleportation moves to great effect.

The Thunder God variation is where you will see most of Raiden’s classic moves. Combos will also have that little extra punch thanks to the lighting powers being amped up. The Displacer variation will use his teleportation moves to control spacing in the arena and set up quick combos. The Storm Lord variation will have Raiden setting up electric traps for opponents to fall into. The Storm Lord variant looks to hold very high risk, and very high reward.

Mortal Kombat X is slated to release sometime in 2015. NetherRealm Studios is working on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions. Another development team is working on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, but they haven’t said which one yet.

My Opinion:

While announcing Raiden is not a big shocker, I am excited for what Mortal Kombat X will bring. I grew up playing the series and seeing Mortal Kombat coming back in a big way makes me happy.

Jesse Webster hopes Johnny Cage will be announced next. You can find him at Twitter
