We get three new characters! Captain Falcon from F-Zero, and Lucina and Robin from Fire Emblem.
Robin is the avatar from Fire Emblem: Awakening whose name, looks, and gender can be customized. Smash Bros. players can choose to play as the male or female versions of Robin. Lucina is the daughter of Chrom, who also appears in the video. Oddly, Chrom is not a playable character, but is apparently only part of Lucina’s Final Smash.
This brings the total of confirmed characters to 36, with mainstays like Ness and Jigglypuff yet to be formally announced. It’s not unreasonable to expect other characters like Mr. Game & Watch, Ganondorf, and Falco to make the cut as well. These are shaping up to be the biggest Super Smash Bros. games ever!
Original Story Below:
A new Super Smash Bros. character will be revealed Monday for the Wii U and 3DS.
Masahiro Sakurai, the creator behind Super Smash Bros., revealed through the Nintendo Miiverse that the character will debut on the Super Smash Bros. website instead of a Nintendo Direct.
“Instead of unveiling something like this during the Nintendo Direct,” Sakurai said. “We’re going to livestream the reveal on the official website on Monday, July 14th, at 7:00 AM US Pacific Time.”
Since Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS was announced, Nintendo has been steadily unveiling new and returning fighters. The most recent character being Pac-Man.
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS launches October 3rd and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is expected this holiday season.
I am huge Super Smash Bros. fan so this kind of news gets me really excited. Since this reveal won’t be featured on Nintendo Direct I believe that Nintendo will use this opportunity to confirm a returning character like Captain Falcon or Falco.
The list of characters in SSB has grown pretty extensively since the 12 character maximum of the N64 version. I’m glad to see a lot of new characters announced, even if it is a character like a yoga instructor. I will definitely be looking on the website in two days to see what they release.
Finally! I knew Captain Falcon would return, but it’s nice to see it confirmed. His move set looks awesome, as always. I’m little miffed that Chrom is not playable, though. He was a more central character than Lucina was. Eh, whatever. Falcon is back, and that’s the real story, here. Now we just need an actual new F-Zero game!
