Assassin’s Creed: Rogue Will Not Have Multiplayer

It was only yesterday when Assassin’s Creed: Rogue was revealed by Game Informer, now a lot of new information has been revealed in the online version of this month’s Game Informer issue. The most interesting and probably most important of the new info is that Rogue will not feature any sort of multiplayer.

Here is a list of all of the new details included in this month’s issue:

  • The protagonist is Shay Patrick Cormac, an Assassin-turned-Templar
  • The story will tell how Shay left the Assassin’s Order to become a Templar; you will play “many” missions as an Assassin before reaching a point where Shay says, “This is wrong, and I have to do something about it.”
  • Ubisoft won’t say what that pivotal moment is, but Shay has a scar that suggests he has undergone more than just emotional distress
  • It is set between 1752 and 1761 during Seven Years’ War
  • There is an “overt link” between Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Unity, and it happens near the final moment of the game. “There is a tie-in,” Ubisoft says about the games
  • It has a significant naval component, which builds off Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Your ship is called the Morrigan; it is smaller than Jackdaw from Black Flag because it needs to navigate rivers and narrow channels
  • Your vessel can be boarded by enemy forces (reverse from what you could do in Black Flag), so you’ll need to defend your crew to survive
  • You will spend your time at land and sea throughout the Eastern part of North America
  • The Morrigan is outfitted with Puckle guns (prototype machine guns)
  • You can drop oil barrels into the water and light them on fire to keep people from following you
  • You’ll need to avoid icebergs when in your boat, but you can also use them for cover in battle
  • You can swim in the frigid waters, but you’ll see the screen freezing up and your health going down if you stay in too long
  • Eagle vision has been enhanced, and now features a compass ring around your character, pointing out objects and shining red to indicate a threat
  • Being a Templar has its advantages, like better, more high-tech weapons
  • New weapons include an air rifle, grenade launcher, and smoke grenades
  • You can distract guards with a firecracker gun and cover your face with a bandana to protect yourself from poisonous gasses
  • New Assassin Interception feature lets you intercept assassination targets. “What if [the Templar] knows who the target is and wants to stop the Assassin? That’s a question that we’ve answered with gameplay in Assassin’s Creed Rogue,” Ubisoft says
  • You can hunt polar bears and NARWHALS!
  • Assassin’s Creed Rogue completes the North American trilogy of Assassin’s Creed III and Black Flag
  • Assassin’s Creed’s III’s Haytham Kenway makes an appearance

Even though Assassin’s Creed: Rogue will not include multiplayer, Assassin’s Creed: Unity will in the shape of four player co-op.

Assassin’s Creed: Rogue is scheduled to release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11th.

My Opinion:

No multiplayer? No problem! I actually love this news!  I despise the multiplayer trophies in Assassin’s Creed games and would love to spend more time in single player hunting for trophies.  This news also means that the dev team is more focused on making the single player portion of the game better than it would have been if they split time making multiplayer on top of it.  All of that being said, I am certain that Assassin’s Creed: Unity will have enough multiplayer for those who REALLY want it, even if it is only co-op.

As for the other news, I like the additional weapons and changes to eagle vision.  It really sounds like Ubisoft is improving every time they release a game.  Plus the fact that they are going to tie all of the games together is fantastic! I can’t wait to see how they pull it off!

  1. I actually wanted multiplayer in rouge because my friends and I have competitions with Assasins Creed but without multiplayer then we can’t do that, I wish they would somehow add it eventually like through an update or something, not everyone can get the next gen consoles like everyone else
