Blizzard is increasing World of Warcraft’s monthly subscription fee in the United Kingdom according to a post on Battle.net, Blizzard’s official forum. These price increases will coincide with Warlords of Draenor, World of Warcraft’s fifth expansion.
“We regularly look at our pricing around the world and from time to time we make changes in light of local and regional market conditions….The new price for recurring subscriptions will be £9.99 for 30 days, £28.17 for 90 days, and £52.14 for 180 days. The suggested retail price of the 60-day prepaid time card will be £20.99” the post reads.
The price increase for a standard month’s worth of playtime has gone up £1.00.
Those already subscribed and set up with an auto-renewing subscription plan will retain the current £8.99 price for two years.
According to IGN, Blizzard has no plans of increasing prices in Australia or New Zealand.
My Opinion:
As someone not living in the UK, it’s hard for me to have a solid opinion on this. I’m not impacted by the price increase. However, I do understand the storm of entertainment constantly bombarding us on a daily basis, and each new thing is competing for our time and money. There’s only so much of both to go around, and World of Warcraft has heavy demands. Those demands have now gone up.
