As we speculated on Sunday, Amazon did in fact let slip Freedom Wars’ official release date. The highly anticipated title, that launched in June for Japan, will launch October 28th for North America and will also have pre-order incentives.
Anyone who preorders the game anywhere should receive the same DLC that was given out in Japan. Those items are as follows: Limited Edition in-game ‘Formal Wear Costume’, ‘AAW-M2 Heavy Melee Weapon’, ‘TB-32/H Rocket Launcher’, in-game ‘Limited Edition Sticker Set’, and lastly a ‘Combat Pack Medical Supply Set’. The items are as pictured below.
For the moment there do not appear to be any physical pre-order bonus items, but as with this launch date, we will continue to keep you informed with any updates for this potential Vita star.
Freedom Wars will cost $29.99 for a physical or digital copy come Tuesday, October 28th.
My Opinion:
As I speculate in an upcoming editorial (the piece will follow later this week), the Vita longs for a game that is true to the handheld itself and not a port or HD remake. Those games are great but they simply aren’t what the audience wants for the portable console. Freedom Wars may be the game that turns fortunes around for the Vita much like Pocket Monsters did so for the Game Boy halfway through its lifetime. Will the game be all that is needed to pull the PlayStation peripheral from a deep hole it has dug? Unlikely. But it could be the first in a long line of better games, on the go.
