PlayStation 4 and Vita Getting Custom Theme Support

Sony announced that both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita will be getting theme support in their respective upcoming firmware updates.

Announced during their pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, Sony revealed that firmware 2.0 for PlayStation 4 will not only include all of the new features announced at Gamescom last month, but it will also include the ability to download custom themes.

Update 3.3 for Vita will include the same custom theme feature as on PS4.  As of right now, the Vita update was only announced for Japan, but it’s extremely likely it will come west soon.

Custom themes allow players to change their background image and icons.

Neither firmware update currently has an a release date.

My Opinion:

I love this announcement.  Even though I am not a person who changes themes often, I just enjoy the ability to customize things if I want to.  The only odd thing about this is that they didn’t announce folder support.  We absolutely need to be able to file away games into folders on PlayStation 4.  I can’t stand having to scroll through 40 games just to find the one I want.  Please Sony, listen to us!  Bring us folder support!
