Earlier this week, Oculus revealed its latest prototype for its VR headset, labeled Crescent Bay.
This prototype is the next step towards a commercial release of the Oculus Rift, although Oculus states that this is still an “incredibly early prototype.” They go on to say:
Crescent Bay is the latest prototype headset on the path to the consumer version of the Rift. Crescent Bay features new display technology, 360° head tracking, expanded positional tracking volume, dramatically improved weight and ergonomics, and high-quality integrated audio.
There is still no official release date for the consumer edition.
My Opinion:
The Oculus Rift seems like the best bet for a home VR headset that won’t immediately put me in the poor house. I’m just waiting for them to be in stores do I can buy one and wear it. With the language they are using, though, I don’t expect to be able to buy one anytime in the next few years.
