Masamune, Sony’s firmware 2.0 for the PlayStation 4, brought a bevy of new features to the console, but it also appears to cause a few problems for users. Luckily, there may be a workaround while waiting for update 2.01.
Error reports center around a pair of issues, including connecting the PS4 to YouTube and booting from Rest Mode (a renamed Standby Mode). While the problems are not universal, a sizeable amount of users have been affected judging from the volume of complaints on the official PlayStation forum and various gaming websites.
In response to an email from Game Informer, a Sony representative stated the following:
“We’re aware of issues reported by some PS4 users following the release of PS4’s latest system software update, v 2.00. We’re investigating these issues and will provide an update once we have more information.”
In the meantime, the @AskPlayStation Twitter account has been replying to queries with instructions to “Go to safe mode and reinstall the software update (option number 3).”
To boot up the console in Safe Mode, hold the power button for seven seconds and release after the second beep (the first will happen when you initially put your finger on the button). From there you should choose “3. Update System Software.” Click here for more details on the PS4 Safe Mode.

My Opinion:
I first caught wind of the issues after attempting (and failing) to power from Rest Mode earlier this week. Booting in Safe Mode and updating the system software seems to be working for many users, but in case you’re still having trouble, avoid powering into Rest Mode and instead shut down completely when finished playing. Sony is well aware of the problem and hopefully releasing a fix soon.
