PlayStation Plus Membership Now Up To 7.9 Million

The number of subscribers for PlayStation’s paid online service has nearly reached eight million. This news comes from a Sony earnings conference call for overseas investors and analysts. Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Kenichiro Yoshida, said that PlayStation Plus membership has reached 7.9 million.

It was further explained that this number was reached with the help of recent titles; Destiny and FIFA 15. Another undoubtable catalyst to this rise in membership is the fact that it is now a requirement for online play, in contrast to recent years.

Another noteworthy piece of news mentioned in the call was that Sony is currently scoping out the gaming market in China. Sony is likely to cautiously enter this heavily regulated market in early 2015.

My Opinion:

As a long-time member of PlayStation Plus, I am happy to see many more people getting in on the savings. Although many are getting the subscription now for online play, the instant game collection alone is reason enough for this awesome service. As for Sony moving the PlayStation to China, I think that is great. Video games are wonderful and everyone should get to play them!
