Square Enix has continued to build hype for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV, uploading a three-minute tech demo video to their YouTube channel.
The video shows off a variety of features enabled by Square Enix’s in-house Luminous Engine, including dynamic lighting and weather effects, high-resolution skin and hair textures, and some seriously detailed environments. We also get a behind-the-scenes look at the Luminous Studio development software used to build the game. Check out the video below:
Final Fantasy XV does not yet have an official release date, but Square Enix has stated they have an idea of what that date will eventually be. When the game finally releases, it will be on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
My Opinion:
I think this is going to be the game that will finally make me buy one of the “next-gen” consoles. Not only am I still really interested in the combat system, but this new video just lends further credence to the idea that Final Fantasy XV will be an incredibly beautiful game, perhaps one of the best-looking in recent memory. There are a couple rough edges here and there if you look for them, but obviously the game is still a long way out. As a techie myself, I love it when developers allow us a peek behind the curtains to see the tools they use to craft game software; in particular, the terrain editor in Luminous Studio looks really cool. Also, is it just me, or does Luna’s in-game hair somehow look more realistic than the real-world wig they modeled it after?
