Final Fantasy XV Demo to be More Limited Than Expected

Square Enix has announced that the demo for Final Fantasy XV will only be included in the first shipment of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD copies.

It was originally announced during Tokyo Game Show 2014 that the demo would be included in all copies.  This means that if you want to play the demo, you will have to either pre-order the game or buy a copy when it is released in March.

Square Enix explained the change on the PlayStation Blog with:

First, as Tabata-san said in a recent episode of Square Enix Presents, this demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. We’re never going to release it as a stand-alone piece down the line. Secondly, it’s intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early — the demo will be limited to the “Day One” edition of the game, meaning that only the first shipment is going to have the demo in it. So if the demo is something you think you might like, we highly encourage you to pre-order or to be quick about getting to the store on launch day, March 17th, 2015.

You can also guarantee yourself a copy of the demo by purchasing the Collector’s Edition of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is scheduled to launch on March 17, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There is currently no release date for Final Fantasy XV or when its demo will officially be playable.

My Opinion:

That is really unfortunate that they are going back on their word.  Many people were probably going to wait and pick Type-0 HD up later.  However, it makes a lot of business sense because this will likely sell many more copies of Type-0 HD right when it is released than it would have before.  This will give them that final bump in sales before their fiscal year ends on March 31st.  I already planned on picking up a copy on day one anyways, so this really won’t affect me.
