In a recent interview with Game Informer, Vince Zampella — CEO of Respawn Entertainment — confirmed that Respawn has a second development team working on something not related to Titanfall.
When asked about a second team, Zampella simply responded with:
There is a second team. Non-Titanfall related… The Titanfall team still exists as a fully functional team…We have another team in pre-production that’s smaller, just starting up. But it’s a much smaller group at this point.
A split into two development teams doesn’t come as a surprise, following Respawn’s recruitment of Stig Asmussen — the former head of development on God of War 3 — in June this year. When hiring, Respawn confirmed that Asmussen would not work on Titanfall.
Another interesting stat that we learnt from the interview is that Titanfall is “closing in” on 8 million unique players.
Finally, Zampella added that we would not hear much from Respawn during 2015 as the teams will be “heads down, back to work.”
My Opinion:
For someone who isn’t always the biggest FPS fan, I had a lot of fun playing Titanfall. I’m also really pleased to hear that the studio is working on something that isn’t just a sequel. In an era where sequels dominate the AAA market, a new IP is a welcome addition.
