A recent Square Enix job posting, spotted by DualShockers, hints that the Final Fantasy XV universe won’t be contained to just one single-player game. The title of the position is “Planner for an online game related to FFXV.”
A couple sentences of the job description are particularly interesting; one of the listed responsibilities is to leverage Square Enix’s state-of-the-art technology and large development staff to “hammer out a large online world.” In addition, among the job requirements is “interest in and experience playing PC games.” Together, these hint at something more complex than a simple online companion app for the game.
While the posting definitely indicates that something is in the pre-planning stages, there is no confirmation from Square Enix that anything will see the light of day; for all we know, this is an experimental project that may die before development even begins. Still, it’s really curious how much the job posting stresses the size of the project. It sounds almost like they’re planning another MMORPG, but it seems like odd timing if that’s the case – Final Fantasy XIV is still around, after all. Frustratingly, this is likely the only thing we’ll hear of this project for a long while.
