Even if an announcement for Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a long way off, it won’t stop people from speculating where the next game will take place. One real estate website believes they’ve got the new location pretty well pinned.
Willie Clark of Movoto Real Estate argues in his blogpost that the new game would fit quite nicely in a Portland, Oregon setting. Using data on the real world Portland to come to this conclusion, Clark compared the number of popular establishments that appear in Grand Theft Auto V‘s Los Santos.
“To be fair, Portland wasn’t our first choice either. We looked at several cities, trying to see which one would be a great place to steal cars and run over hookers in. It’s hard to argue with numbers, and the numbers show that not only is Portland a great choice for the next GTA, but also that Portland probably would have actually been a better choice than that lame-sauce city Los Whateveros.”
Clark points out that there are 637 coffee shops, nine gun stores, and six police stations in Portland, compared to Los Santos’ 10 coffee shops, 11 gun stores, and 12 police stations. And when you take into account that Portland boasts the highest number of strip clubs per capita than any other city in the U.S., it starts to make a little sense. Below is a map of how Portland might look in GTA.
“Portland would be the PERFECT city for the next Grand Theft Auto game. It has the personality, the intrigue, and frankly it might be more fun to visit Portland digitally and not risk running into all of those old college friends who are trying to make the rest of the world move there.”
My Opinion:
As a more recent resident of Portland, OR, I’ve already become one of those “old college friends.” Maybe it’s just a biased opinion, but the Pacific Northwest is a great setting if it’s captured well. inFAMOUS: Second Son popped with Seattle’s color and culture. Twin Peaks was an amazing television series that couldn’t have been set anywhere besides Washington. There’s also The Twilight Saga, but maybe it’s best to ignore that one.
Jordan Loeffler is an Associate Writer for MONG who drives a 2006 Pontiac Vibe with Minnesota license plates even though he lives in Portland, OR. She’s seafoam green, and she drives like a wave. You can follow him on IGN and on Twitter.
I would love them to somehow show Yugoslavia where niko Bellic is from in a flashback or something and let you play as a solider that would be cool
As long as we get a new gta soon in a different location that’s all that matters because we lack gta games now compared to what we had for ps2. And also none of this bull we had for gta iv where we had 2 other gta games take place in the same city.
